Lenna Arter Coburn, age 78, of Crown Point, IN, passed away on Friday, December 18, 2009 at her home.

She was born in Brocksburg, NE on April 28, 1931. Loving husbands, W.C. Arter and Edver W. Coburn preceded her in death.
She is survived by her two children, Karen (Dale) Ballard of Crown Point, IN and Thomas (Mary) Arter of Rochester, NY; six grandchildren, Jillian Ballard of Chandler, AZ, Beth Ballard of Bloomington, IN, Eric Ballard of Crown Point, IN, Jessica Arter of Irvine, CA, Alison Arter of Winston-Salem, NC, and Michael Arter of Rochester, NY; also five step-children, Charlotte (Terry) McGowan of Cleveland, OH, Marcia (Gene) Pett of Grove, OK, Phillip (Karon) Coburn of North Liberty, IN, Lesley (Linda) Coburn of Troy, MO, Jonathon (Barbara) Coburn of Horn Lake, MS, and many step-grandchildren; brother, Glenn (Eileen) Haugen; sister, Mildred Stewart of Newport, NE; sisters-in-law, Donna (Gene) Nelson of Sargent, NE, Yvonne Arter of Oral, SD and Audrey Coburn of Chesterton, IN; two brothers-in-law, J. Franklin (Beverly) Coburn of Selah, WA and F. Marion (Grace) Coburn of Fairfax, VA and numerous nieces and nephews.

Lenna grew up in Nebraska and later attended Wayne State Teachers College. She taught school in Nebraska for several years before moving to Chicago with her husband in 1951. The family lived in La Porte and South Bend, IN and Orland Park, IL before settling in Crown Point in 1968.

Lenna was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church, Crown Point, IN being a deacon, a member of Martha Circle, involved with the Presby Day Organization, and working in the Resale Shop. She was a member of Tri-Kappa Sorority and Hub Homemakers and also enjoyed golf, bowling, bridge, cooking, and travel. She was a bookkeeper for the Arter Tire Company with her husband for many years.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church, 218 S. Court St., Crown Point, IN, with Rev. Kathy Keener-Han officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Building Fund of the First Presbyterian Church of Crown Point, IN.
